Most traders in parts of Kasoa, a town in the central region, have stopped wearing nasal masks and using hand sanitizers, which are part of the safety measures in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic.
In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on Sunday, some traders said they only wear nasal masks to protect themselves from the dust and foul smell from the landfills and toilets around the market, not the COVID-19.
Mr Ofosu Hene, a taxi driver on the Kasoa Nyanyano road, said most passengers usually do not wear a nasal mask or use disinfectant before opening and closing the car doors.
Ms Asibi Turei, a store worker, said she only wears the nasal mask occasionally due to difficulty breathing.
The majority of the stores the GNA visited in the Old Kasoa Market and the New Market did not have Veronica buckets and handwashing stations at their entrances to greet customers in the stores.
A few stores and stores that even had Veronica buckets didn’t have water, soaps, and tissue paper to supplement them.
People have been seen entering and leaving stores without practicing social distancing.
There was a scene of overcrowding at the market with hand-to-hand contact between buyers and traders.
Most pedestrians, hawkers and motorists also did not have a nasal mask as they continued with their daily activities and activities.
