President Akufo-Addo is said to be cutting seven of the ministries he created in 2017 when he took over from John Mahama.

According to asaaseradio.com, a government-linked website, the development follows criticism over the size of the president’s first government and the ability of newly created ministries to achieve their goal.
With about 36 responsible ministers, seven ministers of state, 48 deputy ministers, 16 regional ministers and 16 regional deputy ministers, the government of the day, made up of 123 appointees, is expected to reduce by 30%.

According to the report, presidential sources explained that the Ministry of Enterprise Development will no longer be a substantive ministry in the second Akufo-Addo government, which is not yet constituted.

Once again, the Ministry of Interior Development of the City and Zongo, which was headed by Mr. Mustapha Hamid, will become an agency under the President’s Office and its remaining functions will be integrated into the Ministry of Local Government and Development. rural.
The Ministry of Local Administration will also resume work that has not yet been completed by the Ministry of Reorganization and Regional Development, which is expected to collapse.
Again, the Ministry of Monitoring and Evaluation, responsible for carrying out research on the performance of all ministries, and the Ministry of Planning, headed by Professor Gyan-Baffour, will no longer exist.
Sources in the presidency indicate that the planning ministry will report to the finance ministry, which will be headed by former finance minister Ken Ofori-Atta.
The other ministries to be cut are the Ministry of Special Development Initiatives, headed by Hawa Koomson, MP for Awutu Senya East, and the ministerial portfolio of Adwoa Safo, Minister of State for Procurement.
Finally, the Ministry of Aviation, headed by Kofi Adda, the former deputy for Navrongo in the Upper East, should be added to the Ministry of Transport.
