Ningo Prampram constituency MP Sam Dzata George said he would not risk children’s lives by allowing them to go to school thanks to the new variant of COVID-19.
This follows the reopening of schools across the country following the closure of schools in March 2020 following the outbreak of the pandemic.
According to the legislator, he prefers to give priority to the lives of his children rather than to school.
In a Facebook post, the MP said: “After careful consideration and consultation with medical professionals, my wife and I have decided that our children will not be going to school on Monday or anytime soon. As said before, better a missed note than a grave.
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo announced the reopening of schools in his 21st update on measures taken by his government to curb the spread of COVID-19 in the country.
As per the president’s announcement, schools were reopened across the country on Friday January 15, 2021 from kindergarten to high school while higher education institutions were reopened on Saturday January 9, 2021.
Addressing the nation again on Sunday, January 17, 2021, President Akufo-Addo called on teachers and students to adhere to COVID-19 safety protocols to avoid school closures again.
“Wear your mask at all times. Wash and sanitize your hands regularly. Protect yourself. Protect each other. Protect your teachers. Protect your parents. But don’t give me a reason to close schools again. I pledge to do my best to continue your education, ”President Akufo-Addo said in his speech.
