Regional Minister Designate Oti who is a person living with a disability, Joshua Makubu thanked President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for appointing him Minister Designate for the region.
He said he had been pleasantly surprised at his appointment.
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on Thursday submitted a list of ministerial candidates to parliament for approval.
Mr. Makuba said he had always wanted to serve the nation but didn’t know it would come through this appointment.
“It was a shock to me when I heard the announcement. I didn’t know I was going to be a minister. I know that I can serve my country and my government, but I did not know that I would have a regional minister and I am also prepared and up to the task, ”he told Maakye from Onua on Friday. Explaining what caused his disability status, he said: “I was not born with the disability but had a challenge in my leg so I was taken to the hospital for surgery but. it did not succeed ”.
He explained: “I was amputated when I was 9 years old when I was in 3rd grade and at school I was the only person sitting on a chair. No one wanted to get close to me. It took me over three years before people came to see me ”.
Mr. Makubu said that “they [students] used dirty words on me but my parents were sure I was going to be someone ”.
