Deputy Majority Leader Afenyo-Markin called on Ghanaians to applaud President of Ghana Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for downsizing the government.

The president of Ghana has said he intends to lead the country with 85 ministers compared to 126 he used in his first term as president.

It comes after most Ghanaians, especially on social media, criticized the president for claiming in his first term that he was coming to protect public funds but was running a large government.

The president has since released a list of 46 candidates for ministerial and regional minister-designate who are awaiting consideration by the nominations committee.

But in an interview, Afenyo-Markin said this indicates that the nuclear power plant government is a listening government and needs to be applauded for this decision.

“I think the government should be commended for listening. Instead, applaud the government for having the audacity to reduce the size of departments. It strikes me as laudable and deserves to be applauded.

On criticism of the creation of a new ministry called the Ministry of Public Enterprises, Afenyo-Markin said it was necessary because the government will want to provide the public sector with the necessary support.
