Requiem Mass in honor of former President Rawlings

A Requiem Mass was held in honor of former President Jerry John Rawlings at the Cathedral of the Holy Spirit in Adabraka in Accra.

The event was held not only to pray for Jerry John Rawlings, but also to celebrate his life and value.

His wife Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings and his children Zanetor, Amina, Asantewaa and Kimathi were present at the mass.

President Akufo-Addo, Vice President Dr Mahmudu Bawumia, First Lady Rebecca Akufo-Addo and Second Lady Samira Bawumia also made an appearance.

Former President John Mahama, Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin, Minority Leader Haruna Iddrisu Asiedu Nketia and NDC National President Samuel Ofosu Ampofo were also present.

Preaching to the congregation, the Right Reverend Charles G. Palmer-Buckle said it was important to thank God for the life of Jerry John Rawlings.

“In all things, even in death, we must thank God above all for not knowing when the end will come and we must be happy in life, and we must do well in life.”

“Beloved, let us continue to thank God himself for the 73 years of Jerry’s life and for having crossed our paths, for God in his eternal wisdom has given us the grace to meet and live with Rawlings for all he was.” .

“We are here to remember Rawlings and to be happy with his life. We are gathered here to thank God for the gift of Jerry John Rawlings, a gift that only God can help us appreciate its value and seriousness, ”he said.

The Requiem Mass which lasted two hours was followed by a vigil at the Air Force Officers’ Mess.
