The University of Ghana section of the Teachers and Education Workers Union (TEWU) rejected the government’s proposed increase of 8% in their base allowance.

The union says the government’s proposal is an insult to its members as other education workers’ unions have been offered a higher percentage.

Local MU President Kenneth Botchway insists that until the government shows concrete commitment to improving their conditions of service, Union members will not return to work.

The union of teachers and education workers declared an indefinite strike on Wednesday January 13, 2021 to demand better conditions of service.
