Three men who drank a suspected poisonous local gin, popularly called “apketeshie” at a bar in Aiyinasi in the Ellembelle district, have died.
Body of the deceased, namely; Mr. John Andy, 43, Mr. Loius Amangua, 41, and Mr. Paul Etwe, have since been deposited in the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Mortuary for preservation and autopsy.
Recounting the incident to the Ghanaian News Agency (GNA), the divisional commander of the Ghana Police Service in Esiama, Deputy Commissioner of Police (ACP) Dodzi Godact Hlorazi, said the deceased had purchased on Friday 22 January 2021 Akpeteshie to a drink. bar in Aiyinasi.
According to him, Mr. Andy and Mr. Amangua shared a tot each of the drinks purchased at 1.00 Ghana cedis.
He said that after taking the drink, the two went to a nearby village called Nyamebekyere, where they complained of an upset stomach and suddenly died.
ACP Hlorazi said the third, Mr Etwe, who also had a glass of drink, also complained of stomach problems and was rushed to Saint Martin De Porres hospital in Eikwe, where he is dead.
He said the bar owner, Mr. Ollu, and the woman, who sold akpeteshie to the three men, reported to Aiyinasi police station.
Excited in fury, Aiyinasi youth besieged the police station to lynch the bar owner but were stopped by police.
Police then returned the couple to Esiama Police Station, where they were held pending further investigation.
