The President of the Republic of Ghana, His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has indicated that the University of Development Studies will be named Rawlings.
While paying tribute at the state funeral of former President Jerry John Rawlings, Akufo-Addo noted that the former head of state deserved to be honored.
On a related note, Akufo-Addo said plans are underway to rename the University of Development Studies to Jerry John Rawlings University of Development Studies, Tamale.
According to Akufo-Addo, this decision was in the right place due to the efforts of the late Jerry Rawlings to champion the cause of higher education in the country.
While paying tribute, President Akufo-Addo praised former President Rawlings for his various roles in promoting governance, democracy and being the first child of the Fourth Republic of Ghana.
President Akufo-Addo added that former President Rawlings’ legacy as both a military and democratic leader will be forever etched in the nation’s history books.
YEN.com.gh reported earlier that the last daughter of former President Jerry John Rawlings and Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, Amina, was seen crying at her father’s funeral.
In a video seen by YEN.com.gh on Instagram, Amina Rawlings was tasked with reading Nana Konadu’s tribute to her husband on the last day of the state funeral.
While praising her father and remembering the special moments shared between her parents on behalf of her mother, Amina couldn’t help but burst into tears.
In addition, a rather moving video of former First Lady Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings crying during the state funeral of her late husband, former President Jerry John Rawlings, has appeared.
In the video seen by YEN.com.gh, Ms Rawlings was walking alongside her children Zanetor and Kimathi Rawlings when she suddenly stopped and tears started streaming down her cheeks.
