US President Joe Biden has revived his plan to put Harriet Tubman on a $ 20 note after the process was delayed under Donald Trump’s administration.
Tubman was a 19th century abolitionist and political activist who escaped slavery and saved hundreds of slaves.
During his administration, former President Barack Obama decided the activist should replace Andrew Jackson, but Trump blocked plans when he took over from Obama, How Africa Reports.
According to the White House press secretary identified as Jen Psaki, plans are underway to speed up the process of decorating the $ 20 bill with the image of Tubman.
Psaki said:
“It is important that our money reflects the history and diversity of our country.
“The Treasury Department is taking action to resume efforts to place Harriet Tubman on the front of the new $ 20 bills.”
According to Psaki, an announcement will be made on when the Tubman-style $ 20 bill will be introduced when the plans are finalized by the Treasury Department.
In addition, the travel ban imposed on countries such as Nigeria, Eritrea, Yemen and Sudan by the administration led by Donald Trump has been lifted by US President Joe Biden.
It is one of 17 executive orders issued by President Biden just after the inaugural ceremony that installed his government.
Returning to the earlier policies of his predecessor, Biden described it as discriminatory and as such an attack on what the United States stands for.
Prior to this order, the president had sent a bill to Congress to completely change the country’s immigration system.
