Singer Joe Mettle
Gospel musician Joe Mettle performed at the last funeral ceremony for former President Jerry John Rawlings.
Joe Mettle told TV3’s Komla Adom after the performance that it was a humbling experience.
He described Mr. Rawlings as a great statesman who served his country well.
“It’s a humbling experience to see all he did and all he was for this nation. I grew up to see little that he did. “
“When I was growing up he was president and therefore his charisma, his enthusiasm, his passion for the nation and other things and so I feel honored and humbled to have had the privilege of celebrating this day of his burial”, a he declared.
Singer Irene Logan also performed at the final funeral ceremony.
The ceremony took place at Black Stars Square in Accra.
Dozens of dignitaries attended, including President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and his wife, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia and his wife, former presidents John Agyekum Kuffuor and John Dramani Mahama, and several others.
Irene Logan, who performed Andy Williams’ The Impossible Dream, told TV3’s Komla Adom after her performance that she delivered the song of her heart because the family requested it as one of M’s choices. Rawlings.
She added that she was grateful for having had the opportunity to live in Ghana and to receive an education as a refugee from Liberia at a time when the late Rawlings was a leader of the country.
The “can we run away” hitmaker said she would be forever grateful to the Ghanaian statesman.
“The rehearsals were amazing, I’m moved,” she told Komla.
She added: “My mother is from Liberia and we were among the refugees who came to Ghana to seek refuge and at the time Lt. Jerry John Rawlings was the President of Ghana and he played a very big role in s ‘ensuring that we were able to settle peacefully in Ghana.
“Thanks to this decision, people like me were able to have a solid education, were able to grow up in a peaceful environment.
“His reach goes very far, he has greatly affected Africa and we are very humble and very happy to have been able to experience this man.”
