Traders and drivers at Ashaiman main station still doubt the disappearance of former President Jerry John Rawlings.
They described the ex-president as “an all-time strong soldier and warrior in Africa” who could not “die like this”.
John Addo, a bus station driver said they couldn’t believe a funeral service was taking place for the late former President Rawlings and that “we can still hear his voice”.
He said his departure was “a big shock and we hope it won’t be true”.
Mr. Addo said the late President was courageous, compassionate and committed to the development of the country and “must not die”.
A shopkeeper, who only gave her name as Esinam, at the train station, said they had not yet accepted reports of the ex-president’s death, which she said. described as his father.
“He loved humanity and did well in protecting all citizens” and although all presidents have flaws, the late president had contributed greatly to the development of the country and they wished he was not dead.
“I pray that he is still alive, but I wish him good luck wherever he is and that the good Lord bless his soul,” she said.
However, it was observed that most of the traders and drivers wore black clothes, apparently mourning the late president, with some having red stripes on their arms.
The late former President Rawlings passed away on Thursday, November 12, 2020 at Korle-Bu University Hospital after a short illness.
He was buried at the new Burma Camp military cemetery on Wednesday, January 27, 2021, after an elaborate four-day state funeral.
