The government has commended various stakeholders, including the media and the general public, for the varied roles they have played in commemorating the final funeral rites of late President Jerry John Rawlings.
Speaking at a press briefing in Accra on Thursday, Information Minister-designate Kojo Oppong Nkrumah said the government was satisfied with public compliance with Covid-19 security protocols during the event.
He also praised the cooperation, excellence and professionalism of the media in covering the latest funeral rites.
He said: “The Government of Ghana would like to thank the Ghanaian public for their cooperation in the activities commemorating the final funeral rites of former President Jerry John Rawlings.
“In particular, we note the public’s compliance with the Covid-19 preventive labels and the public’s attention to the call to follow the event as much as possible virtually, which made it possible to avoid large crowds during the event. ‘event.
“The government also commends the media for their cooperation, professionalism and extensive coverage of activities. There is no doubt that their in-depth coverage and analysis has contributed to the ability of the public to comply and track everything that has happened, ”he added.
It will be recalled that the former president died Thursday, November 12, 2021 at the Korle Bu University Hospital in Accra.
This follows the announcement of a series of events to commemorate his final funeral rites and burial service from January 24-26, 2021.
Prior to that, there were many concerns about admitting large crowds to observe funeral rites given the recent increase in active Covid-19 cases in the country.
This is what the minister called on Ghanaians to watch the event virtually on television and on social media.
However, the minister took the opportunity to urge Ghanaians to continue to adhere to safety protocols such as intermittent hand washing with soap and under running water and wearing nasal masks.
