Letter from His Royal Highness Prince Charles on the death of Flt Lt Jerry John Rawlings below:
“My wife and I were very sad to learn of the passing of His Excellency Former President Jerry John Rawlings.
Knowing how much of a dominant figure former President Rawlings was in Ghanaian public life and how respected he was for laying the foundation for Ghana’s proud democratic traditions.
I can well imagine how his loss will be felt by so many people. For my part, I have such special memories of meeting former President Rawlings during my visits to Ghana, most recently in 2018, when we had the opportunity to fondly recall how, in 1977, he was a young Flying Officer Rawlings from Ghana Air. Force that escorted my plane when I first landed in Ghana.
As Ghana mourns the passing of former President Rawlings, my wife joins me in sending our sincere condolences to her family, you and all the people of Ghana.
The former president died on November 12, 2020 at the age of 73 and was buried on Wednesday January 27, 2021 at the military hospital in Accra after a four-day funeral rite ceremony held in his honor.
