The Economic Community of West African States has resolved to set an amount of US $ 50 to be paid by citizens of member countries in order to have access to the COVID-19 test.
This is indicated in a press release published at the end of the 58th ordinary session of authority of heads of state and government on January 23, 2021.
The press release explains that the measure is part of the sub-regional body’s efforts to curb and combat the spread of the pandemic in a timely manner. He adds that the Authority of Heads of State and Government has also agreed on a collective purchasing approach for COVID-19 vaccines.
The President of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, for his part assured that the citizens’ government was working to obtain vaccines by March 2021, the government being ready to start negotiations with international pharmaceutical companies to find a COVID-19 vaccine suitable for Ghana.
This comes after the completion of a task of the Committee set up by the Ghanaian government to make recommendations for the purchase of doses of COVID-19 to combat the virus.
