From Daredevil to Spider-Man, the Kingpin has done his fair share of enemies, including his own son, who has become a deadly crime fighter.
As the king of crime, Wilson Fisk has made some rather dangerous enemies. Superheroes such as Spider-Man and Daredevil have hit the Kingpin for years. Yet no threat has ever been more personal to Fisk than his own son, Richard.
Richard Fisk was first introduced in the amazing spider-man # 83 by Stan Lee, John Romita Sr and Mike Esposito. During this story, it was presumed that Richard had committed suicide because of his father’s criminal life. In truth, Richard had become the Schemer, a new crime boss who attempted to usurp the Kingpin’s role in the criminal underworld.
The Schemer targeted his father’s entire criminal empire, robbing the Kingpin’s henchmen and attacking all of his various headquarters. Naturally, Richard’s criminal frenzy caught Spider-Man’s attention. The web-slinger chased the schemer every step of the way, even as Richard kidnapped his mother, Vanessa. The battle that followed was a three-way brawl between the Schemer, Kingpin, and Spider-Man. Once Richard revealed his identity to his father, the Kingpin entered a catatonic state.

Richard’s next attempt to become a masked criminal has arrived the amazing spider-man # 253 by Tom DeFalco, Rick Leonardi, Bill Anderson and Glynis Wein. This issue reintroduced Richard as the mysterious Rose, a new criminal who operated in Kingpin territory. La Rose has suffered several criminal enterprises, such as fixing sports matches. Unfortunately for Richard, Spider-Man was there to thwart these crimes.
Still, the Rose’s main objective was to bring down the Kingpin. Indeed, Richard was working with the Hobgoblins to undermine his father’s empire. A gang war broke out during the Kingpin’s absence from New York, with the Rose acting as a major player. The Rose ran into the Arranger, Silvermane, Hammerhead, and the Blue Boys, making various alliances and enemies along the way.
Richard believed that although he worked with criminals, he was never really one of them. Those feelings changed, however, when Rose was cornered by a rookie cop. A frightened Richard shot the officer down, making him realize how much of a criminal he had become.
Richard also had to think about his mother, who was in a vegetative state. Vanessa’s condition made her vulnerable to enemies of the Kingpin. When the Kingpin finally returned to New York City, solving the gang warfare, he also discovered the identity of the Rose. Together, Wilson and Richard worked to get Vanessa the medical treatment she needed.
With the disappearance of the Hobgoblin, Richard returned to his father’s empire and renounced his old identity. Of course, Richard and his friend Alfredo have always plotted to take over the Kingpin Empire. In order to cheat on his father, Richard had Alfredo undergo plastic surgery to make them look exactly the same. Alfredo then planned to kill the Kingpin at the right time.
Yet when Daredevil and Hydra took down the Kingpin, Richard’s plan was completely futile. Additionally, Alfredo betrayed Richard by claiming that he was the real Richard Fisk and that he was becoming the new Kingpin. With nowhere to go, Richard took on a whole new career path. Since getting used to the murder, Richard has become the Blood Rose, a punishing type vigilante who has taken down criminals. As Blood Rose, Richard went after Alfredo and his entire operation. Alfredo trained to become the super-criminal called Gauntlet before Richard and Alfredo were taken down by Spider-Man.
Richard later joined his father’s criminal empire, sinking into alcoholism and depression. The Kingpin’s son made one last attempt at rebellion, teaming up with Sammy Silke to assassinate his father. Although the Kingpin was brutally stabbed, he survived and went to Europe for medical help. In Daredevil # 32, by Brian Michael Bendis and Alex Maleev, Vanessa found out about Richard’s betrayal, shooting her son in cold blood. Ultimately, Richard Fisk’s long and tense journey with the Kingpin ended in the only possible way, with him killed by a member of his own family.
