A retired professor from the Faculty of Medicine, University of Ghana, College of Health Sciences, said research by a team of scientists and doctors has proven the effectiveness of hydrogen peroxide on the Covid virus -19.
The solution, according to Professor Emeritus Andrews Seth Ayettey, is safe to use in low concentrations and could be applied to reduce the viral load in the oral and nasal cavities of patients with Covid-19 and to inactivate the viruses they release.
He said JoyNewsSamson Lardy on Newsfile on Saturday that he recommended the use of hydrogen peroxide as immediate protection against the virus.
“I can say from what we have researched and what we have found, the evidence we have so far clearly indicates that hydrogen peroxide works.”
“We are therefore more encouraged to recommend the use of hydrogen peroxide to protect against Covid-19, alongside public health protocols and other remedies actively promoted by the government,” he said.
Emphasizing the use of hydrogen peroxide, Prof Ayettey indicated that the bulk of hydrogen peroxide is six percent “so if you take one part of hydrogen peroxide and add five parts of water to it, you get 1 percent and a minute and you spit it out.
Again he added, “The 1% you made, take part of it and add part of water and it gives you 0.5%.” This 0.5%, he added, can be used for nasal washing.
He further revealed that the nebulized 1% hydrogen peroxide that would reach all parts of the airways, including the alveoli, could prove useful in the management of patients with early signs and symptoms of Covid- 19.
Professor Seth Ayettey also encouraged the pharmaceutical industries to start producing already concentrated nasal and oral hydrogen peroxide sprays.
