COVID-19: UK records 1,200 more coronavirus deaths and 23,275 cases

Another 1,200 people have died from the coronavirus in the UK, according to government figures.

It compares to 1,245 deaths announced on Friday and 1,348 last Saturday and brings the total number of deaths within 28 days of a positive COVID-19 test to 105,571.

Britain has recorded more coronavirus deaths than any other country in Europe and has one of the highest COVID death rates in the world.

Meanwhile, 23,275 more people have tested positive for the virus in the UK. This compares to 29,079 Friday and 33,552 last Saturday.

This brings the total number of cases to 3,796,088.

And 8,378,940 first doses of vaccine have now been administered, with 480,432 second doses.

This is an increase of 2,178 over the figures published the day before.

The seven-day moving average of the first doses given in the UK is now 359,656.

Based on the latest figures, an average of 413,816 first doses of vaccine would be needed each day to meet the Government’s target of 15 million first doses by February 15.
