President Akufo-Addo will address the nation this evening for the 23rd time on the novel coronavirus pandemic as cases in the country increase.

He is expected to give updates on the measures his administration is putting in place to curb the spread of the coronavirus pandemic in the country.

The secretary general of the Ghana Medical Association (GMA) has threatened to go on strike if the government does not impose restrictions on social gatherings.

Dr Justice Yankson, in a recent interview, pointed out that healthcare facilities are already “on their knees”.

He, therefore, reiterated calls for the implementation of rigorous measures to stem the outbreak of the disease.

In a current update from the Ghana Health Service (GHS), he reported that the country had recorded 797 new infections and 28 others succumbing to the novel coronavirus.

This brings the death toll to 405 and 4,665 active cases.

In his 22nd speech, Akufo-Addo warned Ghanaians he would be forced to put the country on lockdown if they did not strictly adhere to protocols to curb the spread of the virus.

He tasked the Inspector General of Police to ensure that Ghanaian Police Service officers ensure that people in public areas wear face masks or masks.

But some Ghanaians turned a deaf ear to his call and continued to disobey security protocols.

This has since threatened the fight against the disease in the country.
