Patrick Reed blocked the noise – again – to win Sunday’s Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines. Here’s all you need to know:

What this means: A day after a controversial fall from a bullet encrusted in the rough on the 10e hole, Reed was unfazed (OK, so no fan helped) as he took the early advantage and led all the way. Not even a minor rules situation for a moving ball on the 17e green – it turned out to be nothing after Reed carefully called an official – could stop Reed, who now has nine PGA Tour wins, the same number as Bobby Jones, Seve Ballesteros and Nick Faldo. Reed has also had at least one victory in seven or more seasons since 2013 (only Dustin Johnson, with nine, can claim that).
How did it happen: Reed started his day tied for the lead at 10 under with Carlos Ortiz. As Ortiz quickly passed out, Reed parried his first five holes before making a 46-foot eagle putt on the sixth par 5. He then sandwiched his only bogey, on the eighth, with birdies at No.7 and 9. Hovland, a group ahead, got a shot early in the back nine, but hung his second at par 4 14e over the obstacle for the second day in a row for his first of three bogeys in a four-hole span which also included a 2-foot miss for par at No. 17. Meanwhile, Reed made eight consecutive par on the front back sinking a 10-footer birdie to close his 4 under 68, five-stroke win, his biggest Tour victory.
Tours of the day: Luke List and Francesco Molinari each shot 6 under 66 to finish T-9. This is Molinari’s second consecutive top 10 after he hasn’t recorded one since the 2019 Masters. But the lowest round was at the bottom of the standings, as Sepp Straka carded a 65 to move up to a share of 32nd.
Plan of the day: Reed’s eagle bomb at the sixth hole, where he also drained a foot over 40 feet on Saturday.
Fall of the day: This “drop” from Hovland at 14e hole that never seemed to want to end.
Most disappointing: Ortiz. Tied for the lead to start the day, Ortiz’s offer for his second win of the season ended with a closing 78. He finished 10 back.
