Secretary General of the Ghana Football Association [GFA] Prosper Harrison Addo has said clubs will be penalized if they fail to comply with Covid-19 protocols.

Hearts of Oak are the first club to endure the wrath of the FA after breaking Covid-19 rules in their match against Great Olympics at Accra Sports Stadium on Saturday.

The club failed to ensure that 25% of the required supporters are at the stadium.

According to Prosper Addo, clubs will be sanctioned if they do not respect the protocols, stressing that the FA is not ready to lose the 25% of spectators that the government has granted them.

“There will be more sanctions in the next few days because we will not allow the 25% of spectators we are granted to be taken for granted,” he said. Asempa FM.

“The GFA will crack the whip of any club that violates COVID-19 protocols in our various stadiums.

“We are not going to sit and watch our 25% of spectators take us away, the rules are clear so clubs should follow them,” he added. “

Meanwhile, the President of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Akufo-Addo has ordered the National Sports Authority (NSA) and the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to ensure that stakeholders abide by the rules established to ensure the safety during football matches amid the spread of Covid-19.

While addressing the nation, President Akufo-Addo said these bodies should ensure the safety of spectators.

“The National Sports Authority and the Ghanaian Football Federation should guarantee respect for the 25% capacity of the stadium with spectators by respecting the rule of social distance and the wearing of masks.”
