Brighton have signed midfielder Moises Caicedo from Ecuadorian side Independiente del Valle for £ 4million.

The Seagulls have been trying to finalize the 19-year-old’s move for the past few weeks and he has a contract until 2025.

The transfer of the Ecuadorian international to the Premier League remains subject to international authorization.

Brighton boss Graham Potter said: “It’s an exciting signing, but it’s important that we give him time to adjust.”

Caicedo rose through the youth ranks at Independiente del Valle, making his first senior appearance for the club in October 2019.

He made his debut for Ecuador a year later in a 1-0 World Cup qualifying loss to Argentina and four days later he scored his first international goal in a 4-2 victory over Uruguay.

Brighton technical director Dan Ashworth said: “Moises has generated a lot of interest from clubs across Europe which is understandable given his performances.

“The recruiting team has known this for quite some time and we are convinced that he is a player with a very exciting future.”
