Liverpool’s transfer deadline day received praise from an unlikely source.
The Reds are closing in with a double blow for defenders Ozan Kabak and Ben Davies.
Liverpool will pay German club Schalke a loan fee of around £ 1million for the services of 20-year-old Kabak for the remainder of the season.
A further potential of £ 500,000 in extras hinges on appearances and performances in the Champions League.
Liverpool will then have the option of buying Kabak at the end of the loan, with a price set at £ 18million plus add-ons.
The deal – and the work of Reds athletic director Michael Edwards – clearly impressed no one other than American fast food chain KFC (Kentucky Fried Chicken).
Posting from their official UK and Ireland Twitter accounts, they joked: “Michael Edwards might walk into a KFC for a snack, but end up walking out with the secret recipe, two of our deep fryers and the shirt on my back. “
Judging by the responses, many Liverpool fans agree with this sentiment.
Kabak was reportedly highly recommended to Jurgen Klopp by his good friend – and former Schalke boss – David Wagner.
The Reds are also expected to strike a deal to sign Davies from Preston North End before Monday night’s 11pm deadline.
Liverpool will pay £ 500,000 up front for the 25-year-old, with an additional £ 1.1million in add-ons believed to include an international cap clause in England.
