Information Minister-designate Kojo Oppong Nkrumah said the government was stepping up its messages about the coronavirus pandemic in the country.
He said the government has put in place appropriate risk communication systems to inform the general public, especially those in remote areas, about the new wave of the virus and ways to observe preventive labels.
He made this known during the minister’s regular press briefing in Accra on Tuesday, February 2, 2021. According to him, this is to ensure strict compliance with the security protocols of the virus following an upsurge in cases assets and a new strain.
He said: “You will notice that the government is stepping up its messages on the Covid prevention label. This includes messaging to the mass media and then also via the vans of the Information Services Department to escalate the message so that we comply much more with the mask-wearing mandate.
The minister took the opportunity to warn Ghanaians to continue to adhere to virus safety protocols such as regular hand washing with soap and under running water, physical distancing and wearing nasal masks.
Meanwhile, the total number of Covid-19 cases in Ghana stands at 67,617 with 61,843 recoveries, an active case count of 5,515 and 424 deaths.
According to the Director General of the Ghana Health Service, Dr Patrick Kuma-Aboagye, the majority of active cases come from the Greater Accra region (56.7%), followed by the Ashanti region (16%) and the Western region (6.1%). ).
