Only 42% of Ghanaians wear a face mask correctly, according to a recent survey by the Ghana Health Service (GHS).
Dr Patrick Kuma-Aboagye, Managing Director of Ghana Health Service, spoke to the media on Tuesday, said the investigation was carried out in public spaces, including truck parks in some key districts, leading to the number of COVID-19 cases in the Greater Accra region. between 7 a.m. and 10 a.m. on January 29, 2021.
He said the data showed 36% of people wore face masks but wore them inappropriately, while 22% of people did not wear face masks.
According to Dr Kuma-Aboagye, this is great news and her outfit is hopeful that it will continue.
“We did one on January 29, 2021. We evaluated the compulsory wearing of masks in the Greater Accra region which is the epicenter of Ghana… The good news is that around 42% of people now wear masks in such a way. appropriate, 22% are not. wore masks at all and 36% were not wearing them correctly. So if I add, we look at almost 80% who intend to wear and that’s a good sign. We are therefore seeing an increase in the use of face masks, and we hope that it will continue. ”
According to the breakdown, 57% of people seen in the Ayawaso West Wuogon area wore face masks while 56% wore them in Korle Klottey.
In the metropolis of Accra and the municipality of Ayawaso East, only 39% of those observed wore face masks.
The level of compliance at Ga West was only 29%.
In terms of specific areas, the survey credited the University of Ghana and Okponglo areas as places where the highest level of compliance in wearing face masks was observed.
The areas with the lowest level of compliance were truck stations, according to the survey.
This follows the order that President Akufo-Addo gave to the police department to impose compulsory wearing of face masks.
