Archbishop Nicholas Duncan-Williams, presiding archbishop and general overseer of the International Chapel Action Ministry, urged Christians to zealously protect and keep their relationship with God.
He noted that Satan was trying to disengage or disconnect Christians from God; saying “when that happens we are in trouble”.
Archbishop Duncan-Williams gave the counsel in his Sunday sermon at the Cathedral of Prayer of Action Chapel International in Accra.
Drawing lessons from Job’s life in the Bible, the Archbishop said the devil was not interested in Job’s children; stating that his target was neither Job’s children nor Job’s wealth or money.
Archbishop Duncan-Williams said what the devil wanted was Job’s relationship with God.
“If you look closely at the Scriptures, when he destroyed Job’s children, wiped them all out, he didn’t stop there, so he went and got all his wealth. He was not satisfied. He went for his health, he didn’t stop there. Then he went to the final target, his wife.
And he said to the woman, tell her to curse God and die. Then as soon as she said that, Job had a revelation and said; “Woman you sound like one of those silly women.” I know my Redeemer lives, ”said the Archbishop.
“In all the things that we go through, and in all the things that we face, in these difficult times in human history; for you and me as believers, what interests Satan most is our relationship with God.
Archbishop Duncan-Williams noted that Satan was not interested in the believer’s health, children, marriage, or money; adding that “he is interested in your relationship with God, for he knows that if he can sever your relationship with God, you have nothing else; you have finished “.
This, he said, was because it was health or money, children or whatever people had, but not everyone had a relationship with God.
Archbishop Duncan-Williams said the devil knew that if the believer’s relationship with God was intact, the believer could rebound in glory.
“He (the devil) knows that with your relationship with God intact, you can bounce back, because Job bounced back and had twice as much as before; it all doubled because of his relationship with God, ”Archbishop Duncan-Williams said.
“If there is anything else you need to keep and protect; it’s your relationship with God. Because no matter what happens to you, as long as your relationship with God is intact, you will surely bounce back. Your last would be greater than your past. Your return would be greater than your setbacks. Protect and keep your relationship with God. “
Speaking on the theme “Being Courageous,” the Archbishop said that courage is the ability to face fear and danger.
Quoting the Bible, Archbishop Duncan-Williams said: “Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of his power.”
He said if there ever was a time in human history when courage was needed more than ever, it was now; explaining that it was because the days were bad.
“He (The Bible) didn’t say to be strong in your mind, in your emotions, in your logic, in your philosophies or in your arguments. He said he was strong in him, because it is in him that we move and that we have our beings.
He said Christians should be strong in the Lord and in the power of his power; declaring that “let nothing intervene between us and our relationship with God, because if we have ever needed him, it is now”.
He said Christians should be strong in the Lord because they live in bad times.
Archbishop Duncan-Williams, who urged Christians not to put their hope and trust in the things of the world, also urged them to be vigilant and sober, for their counsel, the devil, like a roaring lion, sought who he could devour.
