A Nigerian judge at the High Court of Delta State, Judge Anthony Ezonfade Okorodas was left in shock after a DNA test showed his first three children were not his.
He had these children with his first wife from whom he has since divorced.
Judge Okorodas, who made this information public, said in a statement that the DNA test was performed on the children of his ex-wife, Celia Juliet Ototo, who happens to be a lawyer.
Although the Okorodads divorced Ototo 11 years ago, now is the question of who actually fathered their children.
The judge said: “At one point during the coronavirus lockdown early last year, I received information from an anonymous source that the last of three children from my previous marriage was in fact not my biological child.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions at the time, I had to wait until August 2020 to perform a DNA test. The DNA test result published in September 2020 confirmed that I was not the child’s biological father.
Therefore, I called a joint reunion between my extended family on one side and Celia’s paternal and maternal families (i.e. Ototo family from Ovom town and Agbagidi family from town de Yenagoa) on the other side, where I confronted her with the alleged paternity fraud.
Although she initially insisted strongly that I was the biological father, she has since confessed to having the child with another man during our marriage.
He continued to recount that “This repulsive act by my ex-wife prompted me to perform DNA tests on the other two children. A few days ago the results came out. Unfortunately, none of them are my biological child.
This abomination has caused excruciating mental trauma to me, my current wife, lawyer (Ms.) Ebi Okorodas and all the innocent children involved. This is especially true for Ebi, who had to agree to do DNA testing on the four children from our own marriage. Fortunately, the test results confirm that each of them is my biological child.
It is important to say that Celia left the marriage when her youngest child (who is now 17) was only 6 years old.
Since then, all of his children have lived with my wife, Ebi and I, and we are fully responsible for their well-being and education. Close friends of my family would readily attest that unless specifically informed, no one could say that the children were not the biological children of my current wife.
However, the judge said: “Ebi and I would continue to support the children in any way we can. Indeed, even after the publication of the first result of the DNA test which proved that I was not the biological father of the last child, we continued to pay for his studies in a private boarding school.
The other two children are undergraduate university students. The first, a female, will graduate later this year, and the second will soon enter her 4th year of study. We pray that they will overcome the trauma and become responsible citizens of our country. ”
