Jean Mensa is not made for an EC position, she must resign

The founding chairman of the IMANI Africa think tank, Franklin Cudjoe, said that if he was the current boss of the Election Commission (EC), he would step down after the hearing of the ongoing election petition.

According to Franklin Cudjoe, the work of the President of the EC is already “distrusted by millions of Ghanaians”, forcing him to travel with a full military escort.

In the opinion of the head of the think tank, it is unhealthy.

Mr Cudjoe has never hidden his disapproval of the current EC administration and her boss over certain decisions and says that even though he once supported her for the post of President of the CE, she is not up to the job.

Mr. Cudjoe recalled via a message on Facebook that when Jean Mensa headed the Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA), he was the only leader of a civil society organization (CSO) to have publicly welcomed his appointment.

But he now wants the President of the EC to resume her work as a think tank rather than this big job.

“We have to move on. If I were the EC, I would resign after this hearing. It is not healthy to be wary of the trust of millions of Ghanaians and to be guarded by tons of soldiers every time they go to work. Frankly, I was wrong. My own former boss at the IEA is not cut out for the CE job. Many forget that I was the only CSO leader to publicly welcome Ms. Mensa’s appointment as EC for several months. I had long telephone conversations with her on the minefields she must navigate … but alas she was caught.
