As the entertainment industry’s awards season shifts into high gear (albeit somewhat delayed this year due to the pandemic), another entity has announced its nominations.
The Writers Guild of America West (WGAW) and the Writers Guild of America, East (WGAE) have announced nominations for outstanding achievement in television, new media, news, radio / audio, and broadcast promotional writing in 2020. Winners will be honored at a Joint Virtual Ceremony of the 2021 Writers Guild Awards on Sunday March 21, 2021.
Some highlights of the nominations included, for writing drama series, Better call Saul, boys, crown, mandalorian, and Ozark.
In the category of comedy series, nominations were given to Limit Your Enthusiasm, The Big One, PEN15, Ted Lasso, and What we do in the shadows.
Great and Ted lasso were also included in the New Series category with Dave, the flight attendant, and Lovecraft Country.
Long content, divided into two categories, one of which is tailored material, includes entries for Dirty John: The Betty Broderick Story, Hollywood, Ms. America, Security, Uncle Frank, bad education, Clouds, The Good Lord Bird, Little Fires Everywhere, The Queen’s Gambit.
In the arena of the Comedy / Variety Talk series, series Desus and Mero, Full frontal with Samantha Bee, Last week tonight with John Oliver, Late Night with Seth Meyers The Late Show with Stephen Colbert grabbed nominations.
The Simpsons received four nominations in the animation category, while unique episodes of Europhia and Rasied by Wolves collected nods, as did Awkwafina is Nora from Queens, Dead to me, Grace and Frankie, and High maintenance.
Other categories include quiz and audience participation series, daytime drama, episodics and children’s feature films, and digital news.

The Writers Guild of America West (WGAW) and Writers Guild of America, East (WGAE) are unions representing writers in film, television, cable, digital media, and television news.
