The winger wasted no time in winning the love of his new employers as he put Aston Villa to the sword
Jesse Lingard is happy to have made an instant rapport with his new teammates at West Ham as he marked his debut for the club with two goals to defeat Aston Villa on Wednesday.
Lingard had had a scorching start to the season with Manchester United, not having made a single Premier League appearance under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in the first half of 2020-2021.
The 28-year-old was then loaned out to West Ham at the end of January in hopes of regaining first-team action.
If his debut is anything to say about it, David Moyes may have pulled off a transfer masterstroke by bringing the winger to east London.
Lingard scored twice in the Hammers’ 3-1 triumph at Villa Park, Tomas Soucek also finding the net for the visitors, and the winger revealed after the game that he already feels comfortable in the eleven of departure from Moyes.
“Three points is the most important thing, the team have worked hard as a collective and we are thinking of the next one against Fulham,” he said. BT Sport after the game.
“The team has been great with me, I got settled pretty quickly and there are some familiar faces that help me.
“In training we have that bond and we built it pretty quickly. On match day it’s pretty easy to play with Michail Antonio and Declan Rice.
“I started tonight, I scored two goals and got three points. I was smiling before the game and during, I love to play football.”
“It’s been a long time, I came here to buy time and scored two goals, but like I said, three points is the most important.”
Antonio was also delighted to see his colleague take over and praised Lingard’s talent and attitude while stressing the importance of West Ham’s collective strength.
“It was incredible. They are a quality team, Villa. Big attacking threats and solid,” said the forward. BT Sport.
“We knew it would be tough but we played well and pressed them. Jesse (Lingard) is the new boy and will be in the limelight, but it’s a team performance. Jesse is an amazing player. He plays well a two-key with me and Benrahma, he always wants the ball and shows.
“Today was a tough game. All we can do is play well every time we go out on the pitch.”
