The Nevers teaser: HBO’s Victorian superhero series in London is amazing

A teaser for The Nevers has been released. The HBO superhero series was created by Joss Whedon, who is no longer associated with it by any title. British screenwriter Philippa Goslett is now the showrunner.

The genre-mixing series is set in Victorian London and tells the story of Touched People. Most of them are women who have special abilities. They fight to protect themselves from other forces, including cops and purists who believe the powers of the Affected are ungodly.

Although this is only a teaser, The Nevers shows good production quality. The world appears to be richly realized, although this is admittedly only a brief glimpse.

Overall, The Nevers looks great. It’s both fun and also features social commentary in true Whedon style. There are echoes of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, but the show is clearly its own thing too.

The cast includes both known and unknown names. Laura Donnelly, Olivia Williams, James Norton, Tom Riley, Nick Frost, Eleanor Tomlinson, Zackary Momoh, among others, are part of the series.

The official synopsis reads: “In the last years of Victoria’s reign, London is beset by the ‘Touched’: people – mostly women – who suddenly display abnormal abilities, some charming, others very disturbing. Among them, Amalia True (Laura Donnelly), a mysterious widow with swift fists, and Penance Adair (Ann Skelly), a brilliant young inventor. They are the champions of this new subclass, making a home for the Touches, while fighting the forces of … well, just about any force – to make room for those in history as we know it. has no place.

The Nevers releases in India on Disney Plus Hotstar on April 12.
