We have not received any orders to cancel Strike-SSA-UOG | Education

Mr. Zakaria Mohammed, national president of the Association of Senior Managers of Universities of Ghana (SSA-UOG), said on Thursday that the association had not received any orders to call off its industrial strike action.

He said the Association heard about the orders in the media and no letter was served on them, saying, “No summons have been served on me or the association. We only heard it on social networks and I can’t talk about it ”.

The National Labor Commission (NLC), Wednesday, February 3, obtained an interlocutory injunction from the High Court, Division of Labor, against the SSA-UOG to immediately cancel its strike.

The court ordered the parties to return to the bargaining table to negotiate in good faith over the non-basic allowance and when the level 2 pension arrears would be paid.

He also gave the parties three months to engage in negotiations and report to the Commission.

The statement said the court also asked the government to pay the unpaid pension arrears by the end of March 2021.

The court orders were in line with the directives of the NLC meeting heard on Wednesday January 27 between the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC) and SSA-UOG and the regulations of the National Pensions Authority.

The meeting was to address the issues of non-payment of SSA-UOG level 2 pension arrears, delay in granting market premium and non-basic allowance and their condition of service.

Responding to NLA guidelines on Jan. 27, Zakaria said the Association, at an emergency National Executive Council (NEC) meeting on Feb. 1, expressed disappointment with the management of their problems by the government.

He said the government, through its agencies, acted in bad faith by failing to comply with NLC guidelines.

“Notwithstanding the NEC’s commitment to commit the FWSC to its condition of service, we are resolved not to resume our official duties until the government has fully paid our current Level 2 contributions within 48 hours,” did he declare.

“We expect the government to act fairly towards senior management, by extending the interim market bonus and non-basic allowance without delay to all members of our union, and by providing notice to members of the union. leadership of public universities that have resorted to intimidation of our members to renounce such acts, ”he said.

He said that while the Association regrets the dire consequences of the strike, including the closure of basic schools and laboratories at all public universities, it remains committed to achieving justice for its members.

“We would like to point out that we are not afraid of threats to withhold our wages. For the avoidance of doubt, we will withdraw all essential services such as security, firefighters and hospital staff if further attempts are made to withdraw our wages ”.
