On this week’s SmackDown (5.02.21), 2021 Royal Rumble winner Edge returned to the blue mark. One of her backstage interactions with Shinsuke Nakamura caused a stir on social media.
After Roman Reigns’ ultimatum earlier that night, the “ Superstar Rated-R ” entered the arena. Just before coming to address the crowd at the main event, Edge was seen talking to Shinsuke Nakamura.
Fans couldn’t hear what the two icons were talking about, but soon people started speculating about a match between them. Nakamura himself retweeted a post from WWE, expressing the same desire as the WWE Universe.

While Nakamura is no longer a heel, it would be great to see two megastars from two generations and continents go head to head.
Shinsuke Nakamura to renew his WWE momentum
The match with Edge could come true, as Nakamura is emerging as one of the top stars on the main roster. After losing the tag titles, fans believed that Nakamura would be forgotten again.
However, the glove match to determine the number one opponent for the Universal title changed Nakamura’s stature in the company. Nakamura lasted until the end, only to be attacked by Reigns and Jey Uso.
Although he never had the title opportunity, Nakamura has garnered attention ever since. ‘The King of Strong Style’ also showed off his athleticism during the Royal Rumble match. He even picked up his old and iconic theme song.
A major NJPW superstar, Nakamura entered WWE in 2016. Despite winning the Royal Rumble in 2018, Nakamura has grown into an intermediate to upper middle card.
After teaming up with Cesaro, Nakamura won the SmackDown Tag titles. In an interview, Nakamura said that his current Tag partner is much better than his IWGP Tag partner, Hiroshi Tanahashi.
“I always aim for the [singles] titles, “ he added. “I want to be the first Asian WWE Champion.” He wants to achieve a similar feat like Drew McIntyre and Kofi Kingston who were the first WWE Champions on their respective continents.
