Member of Parliament for Bolgatanga East, Dr Dominic Ayine says that MP Asawase consulted him before taking the decision to withdraw the allegations of corruption brought against a judge of the Supreme Court.

“I am also an adviser to Muntaka on many of these issues. I am deeply involved in all of this and I know what really happened, ”he said.

According to him, Mohammed-Mubarak Muntaka returned to the allegations brought against a judge of the Supreme Court to preserve cordial relations between the judiciary and the legislature.

Speaking to Samson Lardy Anyenini of JoyNews on Newsfile, Dr Ayine said Mr Muntaka’s decision after several consultations is aimed at keeping Ghana’s growing democracy intact.

“Our democracy is still fragile and we must as much as possible make sure that it develops very well. Sometimes when these things happen, institutions lock horns or figures in institutions lock horns, ”he said.

He said if MP Asawase had remained resolute and did not retract his accusations, several activities which would have led to prove such claims “would sever the cordial relationship between the two branches of government”.

“The judiciary leading a member to a committee hearing or contempt of court proceedings and so on … Remember that we are two equal branches of government and the judiciary would not have been able to say that Parliament should not investigate this matter.

“And if we did an investigation into this and it is a public inquiry, you will find that the two arms of government are in conflict and are fighting each other,” he said.

Although the former deputy attorney general believes the right thing was done, he said, however, that Mr. Muntaka should have investigated the matter before going public with his allegations.

On February 6, Mohammed-Mubarak Muntaka, in a press release, retracted an allegation that a Supreme Court judge tried to bribe an elected member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to influence her in the election of a president. of Parliament.

He also apologized for any damage caused to the image and reputation of the Lord Justices of the Supreme Court and members of the judiciary.
