Many social media users have taken to Facebook and Twitter to express their sadness over the death of an ambulance driver who was shot dead by armed thieves on the Somanya road in Adukrom while carrying a pregnant woman at work.
According to sources, the driver died while being admitted to Korle Bu University Hospital in Accra after the shooting.
The Senior Emergency Medical Technician – Abraham Tetteh was Yilo Krobo’s municipal officer in charge of the national ambulance service.
On Thursday, February 4, 2021, at around 1:00 a.m., highway thieves shot at the driver while he was transporting a pregnant woman in labor to the East Koforidua Regional Hospital.
He encountered a robbery but did not follow the orders of the armed robbers and rushed to bring the laboring woman to the hospital.
The thieves shot him in the head and it took the police patrol team to rush him and the woman in labor to Tetteh Quashie Hospital.
The ambulance driver was referred to Korle Bu Teacing hospital where he received medical treatment.
The theft incident occurred days after a similar attack on three policemen – Sergeant Moses Tetteh Nartey, Corporal Christian Totimeh and Detective Ibrahim Apaka by highway robbers on the Akyem Pramkese road to Akyem Techiman in the Kwaebibirem district of the eastern region.
Sergeant Moses Tetteh Nartey died of two gunshot wounds to the chest and one to the head, while Corporal Christian Totimeh also suffered a gunshot wound to the left rib which was now responding to treatment.
