Why Indians flooded President Akufo-Addo’s Facebook page

On February 2, 2021, some Indian Facebook users flooded President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s Facebook page demanding the release of an Indian politician they suspected of being held in Ghana.

According to a Times of India report, President Akufo-Addo’s Facebook page was the subject of a targeted attack by trolls on the assumption that PV Anwar, the current member of the Indian legislature was in prison and that they demanded his “ release ” and immediate return to his constituency.

An article on the composition of the State Council of Ghana on President Akufo-Addo’s Facebook page drew more than 3,500 comments, most of them trolls in Malayalam and English.

However, Anvar allayed the fears of the trolls on Friday night by saying: “They say I’m in prison in Ghana, they may wish that. But they are wrong.”

He has since posted more social media posts with his location in Freetown Sierra Leone.

Anvar had previously been reported missing in India, but he later clarified that he traveled abroad after the local elections for a business visit to Africa.
