Lawmakers who fail to self-isolate despite testing positive for the coronavirus will be on display on the House floor.

It is a warning served by the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, following the surge in positive cases of Covid-19 in Parliament.

Already, the work of Parliament has been moved to an outdoor space and sittings have been reduced to twice a week.

The minority in parliament has assured the government that it will never intend to sabotage them when passing progressive laws that will ensure the development of the country.

Speaking to the media, the minority leader – Haruna Iddrisu – explained that the NDC caucus will be closely linked to the majority in parliament to ensure the smooth functioning of the economy.

“We, the NDC minority, are not interested in sabotaging the government anyway. We are ready to fully support the government and ensure that all laws regarding development and progress are passed, ”he said.

The Speaker of Parliament cautioned lawmakers against a dual role of ministers. Quoting sections of the Bible (Matthew 6:24), Alban Bagbin argued that taking on both roles will leave them “devoted to one and despise the other.”

He made it clear that having dual roles would only make Parliament less efficient.

The President’s warning comes in the wake of the loss of more than 100 lawmakers in the elections which just ended in 2020. Of these, a majority of these lawmakers have served in the dual roles of ministers of state and leaders. of certain public institutions.

The New Patriotic Party caucus in parliament as well as the independent MP for Fomena were declared together as the majority group in Ghana’s 8th Parliament.

The NPP caucus had 137 members while the National Democratic Congress (NDC) caucus also had 137 members, with independent MP Fomena holding the trump on which side becomes the majority.

NPP MPs were there early to take majority seats with the will to outsmart NDC MPs when they voluntarily relaxed at home.

When Ghanaians woke up to take note of the news, they took to Twitter as expected, to rain heavy trolls on NPP MPs for being foiled by NDC MPs.
