The Upper West Regional Police Command arrested 83 people, including 66 men and 17 women, for refusing to wear face masks in public as ordered by the president.

Chief Inspector Gideon Ohene Boateng, public affairs officer for the Upper West Regional Police, told media they warned people to strictly adhere to protocols ahead of the mass arrest.

“So far, we’ve done the outreach tour and we’re making sure we’re all on board. So I will say that the recalcitrant, who are unwilling to wear the face mask, are the ones we have arrested, ”he said.

Chief Inspector. Boateng said they would be questioned and their answers would inform the police command’s next line of action.

He expressed concern that some people had the masks but refused to wear them, adding that they were meant to be worn and not hidden in pockets or purses.

Some of those arrested said they had the masks in their pockets as they rode motorcycles.
