A large swarm of bees in the early hours of Sunday February 7 attacked some residents of New-Town, a suburb of Assin-Fosu municipality in the central region.
The bee swarm had built its beehive in the tower of a mosque in the area and was provoked when children threw stones at their colony.
In all, six people including a two-year-old baby, a pastor and injured residents were rushed to Assin Fosu St. Francis Xavier Hospital for medical attention.
An eyewitness told the Ghana News Agency that some of the Ghana National Fire Service staff and journalists who rushed to the scene later were not spared by the bees.
According to him, the priest who is pastor at the Church of Christ was on his way to the church when he unknowingly stuck the bees and received severe insect bites.
He fell unconscious and crashed his car into a taxi parked nearby whose driver was also escaping bees.
