As part of the celebration of National Chocolate Week 2021, the Head of Public Affairs of the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) Mr. Fiifi Boafo made a passionate appeal to Ghanaians to consume chocolates and herbal products. of cocoa to strengthen their immune system against the coronavirus pandemic and to better protect the human body against infections.
According to him, the best route to a healthy immune system is to regularly consume cocoa products such as chocolate candies, drinks and chocolate dishes as supplements to healthy meals.
Noting the benefits of cocoa for the human body, Mr Boafo said that consuming chocolates and cocoa products activates natural immunity and enhances the immune response induced by vaccination, providing better protection against infection. by the influenza virus and associated diseases.
He was speaking at a press conference in Accra on Tuesday, February 9, 2021, as part of a week-long series of events to promote the consumption of locally produced chocolate in the country. The week-long event, themed “Eat Chocolate, Stay Healthy & Grow Ghana” starts February 8-14, 2021.
Mr Boafo said this was part of a larger plan to promote consumption of our locally produced chocolate and other cocoa products. He noted that “this year, the government’s decision with its implementing agencies; the Ghana Cocoa Board, Ghana Tourism Authority, Ghana Investment Promotion Center and cocoa processors are going to take our Cocoa Celebration from a one-day event to a full week’s activity.
He said that “Cocoa remains our biggest export in terms of income and its impact on the Ghanaian public. The concern that we have all expressed as Ghanaians is why do we keep exporting our raw beans instead of processing them because when you process you make a lot of money out of it. So we have had this conversation for a period and we have reached a point where it is necessary to put in place concrete actions that will help us achieve the goals that we have set for ourselves.
He advised Ghanaians to strictly adhere to all existing protocols, as directed by the government, in order to contain the spread of COVID-19 before, during and after the celebration of Valentine’s Day.
