BBC divorce drama The Split is set to return for a third series.
Set in the complex and cutthroat world of London’s high-end divorce circuit, the drama examines modern marriage and the legacy of divorce – both for high-profile clients and for the lawyers themselves.
Find out everything you need to know about the new series …
Summary: What will happen in The Split season 3?
The third season will continue to follow the messy lives of the Defoe sisters – and in particular the separation of Hannah and Nathan.
In the second season, the couple’s relationship broke when Hannah’s affair with Christie was revealed. Ten months later, the two divorce lawyers respectfully negotiate their separation and appear to have come to an amicable settlement – until a shocking revelation changes everything and completely redraws the battle lines.
According to the BBC, creator Abi Morgan “is on the verge of concluding the case with the most dramatic and heartbreaking series yet, as we watch a divorce lawyer confronted with her own divorce.”
The Split Cast
Sisters Defoe Hannah (Nicola Walker), Nina (Annabel Scholey) and Rose (Fiona Button) return alongside their wonderful mother Ruth (Deborah Findley). Stephen Mangan continues as Hannah’s husband Nathan, and Chukwudi Iwuji reprise his role as Zander.

The Split season 3 release date
In February 2021, the casting of the third season continues and filming still has to begin. While coronavirus restrictions are ongoing, 2022 seems like the likely time for the new series to air – although if the turnaround is swift, the end of 2021 is also possible.
Will there be a season 4 of The Split?
It doesn’t look like that. The BBC said the final season would be the “third and final series”. And creator and writer Abi Morgan previously said the show “was always meant to be three.”
