The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) will, on February 22, arraign the former Minister of Aviation, Senator Stella Oduah, before the Federal High Court in Abuja, for alleged financial irregularity.

Judge Inyang Ekwo set the date on Tuesday because the former minister had not yet been informed of the court proceedings.

The Nigerian News Agency (NAN) observes that Oduah, who currently represents the Senatorial District of Anambra North in the National Assembly, faces the charge of fraud alongside eight others in a lawsuit involving the number: FHC / ABJ / CR / 316/20.

Although the arraignment was scheduled for today’s sitting, the case could not proceed because the lawmaker was not in court.

EFCC attorney Dr Hassan Liman, SAN, told the court that the ex-minister had not been informed of the court proceedings.

The lawyer therefore requested an adjournment to allow the anti-corruption agency to serve lawmakers.

“My lord, the case was presented today for arraignment, but I have been informed by the commission that the first defendant (Oduah) has not yet been served.

“In view of this, my lord, may I humbly ask for a very short date,” he said.

Judge Ekwo felt it was the duty of the prosecution to bring the accused to court.

The judge then adjourned the case until February 22 for the defendants to accept their plea.

The anti-corruption agency alleges that Oduah embezzled public funds while he was a minister. (NOPE)
