COVID-19: We don’t want schools to close their parents | Education

Some parents in Accra have pleaded with the government and education authorities not to close schools again due to the increase in COVID-19 cases in the country.

They felt that if the necessary precautions were taken, the cases could decrease for children to continue their education.

The advocacy followed calls from the Ghana Medical Association asking the government to close schools for the second time, after some cases of COVID-19 were recorded in some schools across the country.

Madame Hawa Abdul Khadil, 45, trader and parent, said that with the provision of personal protective equipment (PPE) and strict adherence to COVID-19 safety protocols, children could be safer in schools than in homes.

“My husband and I are always busy with work and come home late. While the schools were closed, taking care of our children was not easy, so being in school with the protection of their teachers would be safer, ”she said.

Ms Sackley Armah, another 43-year-old mother, said some schools followed safety guidelines and presented a ‘COVID-19 free’ environment for children.

“Some schools and teachers do better than us. The children come home to teach us what to do so that we no longer have to close schools. The children will worry us at home. Let’s just make schools better for them, ”she said.

“I have parents who are teachers and going back to school is not only for the children, but also for the teachers. Some have no work to do, ” said Ms. Sandra Dery, mother of two.

Mr Razak Mohammed Aboagye, 47, single parent, said they had already paid the school fees and there was no reason for schools to be closed.

He said what was needed was for schools to strictly enforce protocols.

Mr Aboagye also called on education authorities to monitor schools to ensure that they comply with Ghana Education Service’s schools reopening guidelines, especially reducing class sizes.
