Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) said it has started installing another transformer in Anwomaso substation to add to existing ones to improve the quality of power transmission in the capital. Ashanti Regional, Kumasi.
This part of Ghana experiences an unstable power supply.
The company, which supplies electricity to the Ghana Electricity Company (ECG) for further distribution to consumers, says it has found it prudent to add more transformers to improve the quality of power transmission.
Speaking to the media during the work inspection on the Anwomaso substation, Nordic Grid Services Manager Vincent Boakye said the installation of the 66NVA transformer, which is currently underway, will help to to provide power supply by EGC to its stable customers in Kumasi.
He noted that by mid-February the installation of the transformer and the laying of the cables will be completed.
The installation, he said, is part of the company’s short-term measures to find a solution to the problem, as long-term measures are also put in place to improve transmission.
For his part, the Director of Major Projects, Ashanti SDU of the Ghana Electricity Company (ECG), Ing Fredrick Kwabena Bediako, said they expected reliability in terms of supplying electricity to customers improves after installation.
