Dan Botwe, MP for Okere, visited the scene of the ambulance theft, which resulted in the death of Samuel Tetteh, the ambulance driver.

He was accompanied by outgoing and incoming ministers from the Eastern region, and a team of experts from the police and the Ghana Highway Authority to examine possible strategic plans to curb the trend of theft on this stretch.

It will be recalled that on February 4, 2021, an ambulance carrying a pregnant woman in labor from the Akuse government hospital to the Eastern Regional Hospital in Koforidua was attacked by armed thieves in Aseseeso on the road Somanya-Koforidua at dawn. .

During the process, the driver was shot in the head and was rushed to Tetteh Quarshie Memorial Hospital in Mampong by the police patrol team who arrived at the scene later with the patient in the ambulance.

The driver who was in charge of the Yilo Krobo constituency ambulance was subsequently referred to Korle-Bu University Hospital and died while receiving treatment.

The pregnant woman after being stabilized at Tetteh Quarshie Hospital was transferred to Koforidua Regional Hospital where she successfully delivered her baby.

Mr. Botwe, described the situation as unfortunate and assured that the combined stakeholders will step up measures to stop such an event.

Meanwhile, Okere District Chief Executive Nana Addo Kenneth said the district security committee is ensuring that security, especially police patrols and visibility, is improved.

He explained that the Assembly had set up a police station on this section of road in response to incidents of armed robberies on this section of road.
