A Bekwai circuit court sentenced a worker at the Wash Bay to five years’ forced labor imprisonment for theft.
Eric Kwabena Antwi and Yaw Sarpong stole goods valued at GHC 4,840.00 from Madam Felicia Alugushie, a trader.
Antwi, aka Abompe, denied conspiring to steal, causing illegal damage, illegal entry and theft, but was convicted after the trial.
Meanwhile, Sarpong, his accomplice, is on the run and the police have mounted a search for him.
Continuing, Chief Inspector Stephen Ofori told the Court, chaired by Mr. Mark Timarah Diboro, that Ms. Alugushie was the complainant.
He said the complainant traveled on September 30, 2020 and upon her return on October 9, 2020, she detected that her room had been broken into and items such as a latex foam mattress, an electric sewing machine , an electric stabilizer, a gas cylinder, 17 pieces of wax. prints and a ladies handbag had been stolen.
The prosecution said she filed a formal complaint with Feyiase police and on October 18 of the same year, police were informed that the stolen items were with Antwi, which led to her arrest.
Chief Detective Inspector Ofori said Antwi led police to his mother’s abandoned room in Esreso where he kept the stolen items.
He said police recovered the mattress, sewing machine, cylinder, two pieces of wax, a stabilizer, a pair of women’s sandals and a women’s handbag.
The prosecution said that during investigations, Antwi mentioned Sarpong as his accomplice and confessed to selling the rest of the items.
