The head of the Rwandan army, Lieutenant-General Jacques Musemakweli, died “of natural causes” Thursday in a military hospital, according to the Rwandan Defense Forces.
“Yes, General Musemakweli is dead, he was sick,” a senior Rwandan army official told the BBC.

General Musemakweli was appointed Chief of the General Inspectorate of the Rwandan Defense Forces in November 2019.
He previously held the positions of Chief of Staff of the Army, Chief of the Presidential Guard and Commander of the Reserve Forces.
He was a member of the Rwandan Patriotic Front (RPF), a rebel force commanded by Paul Kagame which came to power in 1994.
