Veteran journalist Kwadwo Agyenim-Boateng is expected to represent the Bono region on the Council of State.
The 77-year-old won the Council of State elections with 15 out of 24 votes to win the place.
Its competitors, the former director of education, Dr George Adjei Henne, polled 5 votes and the supreme leader of the traditional area of Drobo, Okokyeredom Sakyi Ako II, got 3 votes.
A teacher, Dominic Adu-Gyimah and an agronomist, Kwabena Boahen, who were also in the running, got no votes.
There was a rejected ballot.
In his interaction with the media, Mr. Agyenim-Boateng said that the Bono region is one of the country’s “food baskets”.
For this reason, he hopes to meet with the president as a member of the State Council to ensure that more factories are built in the region in order to preserve the country’s food.
“Cashew is very common in the region. If you go to Wenchi, Jaman North and South, they’re all in it. some have even given up cocoa.
“So we need a factory to process the cashews so that foreigners don’t come and take them cheaply at the farmer’s expense.”
Kwadwo Agyenim-Boateng during President Akufo-Addo’s first term represented the former Brong Ahafo region as a member of the State Council.
