Inspector General of Police (IGP) Mr. James Oppong-Boanuh revealed that the training course for police officer cadets has been extended for another three months with more academic work included.

This means that staff will spend nine months equivalent to 36 weeks at the Police Training School before graduating into the higher grades of the service.

Regarding the admission to the 50th Officer Cadet Course at the National Police Training School in Accra, he indicated that this was in line with the new framework of the new curriculum of the Training School. of the police.

“I am pleased to join you in officially opening the 50th Cadet Course which is to run for nine months (36 weeks) as part of the Police Academy’s new training program. This is indeed a decisive turning point in the career progression of these participants, ”he revealed.

Mr. James Oppong-Boanuh added “as part of the measures to improve police training in accordance with international standards and good practices and also to meet the expectations of the good people of this country, in 2020, a training committee and review of programs under the chairmanship of the COP Kofi Boakye, Director General of Legal Affairs and Prosecutions, to review the entire police program at all levels of the country’s police institutions. One of the remarkable outcomes of the committee’s comprehensive work was a recommendation to affiliate the police academy with an accredited tertiary institution in order to add value to the certificate course that participants will receive upon completion of the course ”.

He described the Police Academy as the gateway for police personnel seeking to reach higher ranks in the service in their career progression.

“The cherished aspiration of every police officer to achieve rank within the senior officer corps and the Police Academy is the gateway to that desire. The current number of course participants is a mix of university graduates who in accordance with the requirements were waiting for the opportunity to enter the academy, as well as those who benefited from the recent competitions organized by the police administration for contact staff in the inspection grade who have served for a considerable number of years with an irreproachable disciplinary record, ”he revealed.

IGP urged course participants to take their studies seriously and exercise a high sense of discipline, suggesting that members of the Police Management Board will make a surprise visit to the school. training to observe how they behave.
