Armed police retaliated, leading the thieves to flee into a nearby bush in the wee hours of Saturday, February 13, 2021.
Police also rescued a private bank security guard and another who was on duty at an adjacent ECG office (names of security officers withheld).
Their hands had been tied behind them and their legs also tied with ropes. The police chose an AK 47 assault rifle with a soaked serial number and 28 live cartridges from the direction of the bush where the thieves are fleeing. Other items recovered included an industrial cutter, crowbar, screwdrivers, damaged padlocks and four used BB shells.
Police also observed, among other things, that armed thieves damaged the burglar-proof door and the glass door leading to the banking hall. Although the thieves were given access to the banking room, they were unsuccessful in their operation due to the timely intervention of the police.
Meanwhile, a search has been organized to arrest them and we urge residents of Esiama and surrounding villages to report suspicious figures, especially those with gunshot wounds to hospitals, clinics and herbalists for treatment.
